EPDM Roofing

Summit Roofing & Restoration installs and repairs EPDM roofing systems.

What is EPDM roofing you ask? Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) roofing is a type of thermoset membrane roofing material. It is the most common material used to create rubber roof, and is derived from oil and natural gases. EPDM roofs are widely used in commercial applications.

An EPDM roof is a single-ply rubber membrane ranging from about 45 to 60 mm in thickness. It is sold in rolls that can be as wide as 50 feet. The most common EPDM materials provide a smooth black finish, though some have pigments or dyes added to create a white finish. This white finish helps the roof to reflect the sunlight and keep the inside of the building cooler.

Like all rubber roofs, EPDM systems are very lightweight and east to install. There are extremely effective at waterproofing a roof structure, and last for many years with little to no maintenance. Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer is flexible and can be installed on any type of roof regardless of shape or design. These roofs can also be patched fairly easily when puntured or torn.

An EPDM roof is primarily designed for flat or low-slope roofing structures. EPDM roofing is bonded at the seams with heat to create a continous barrier. This allows the EPDM roofing to keep water from penetrating the roof structure and leaking into the home or building.
