Composition Shingles

Summit Roofing & Restoration installs and repairs many different types of composition roofing systems. Due to their flexibility in applications and affordable price point composition shingles are the most popular roofing material choice in the residential market today. Composition shingles are basicaly broken down into two different types 3-tab and Laminated.

Three-tab shingles are the roofing industry’s standard, consisting of two layers of asphalt around a Fiberglas® mat core covered with ceramic mineral granules, notched into three integrated pieces, or tabs.

  1. Shingle sealant
  2. Mineral surface granules
  3. Weathering-grade asphalt
  4. Fiberglas® mat
  5. Weathering-grade asphalt

Laminated shingles are created by bonding two asphalt shingles together, giving them a distinct three-dimensional appearance. Laminates are generally heavier in weight, and allow for greater design flexibility.

  1. Shingle sealant
  2. Mineral surface granules
  3. Weathering-grade asphalt
  4. Fiberglas® mat
  5. Weathering-grade asphalt
  6. Mineral surface granules
  7. Weathering-grade asphalt
  8. Fiberglas® mat
  9. Weathering-grade asphalt

Composition shingles come in a large selection of types, brands and colors. They require low maintenance and can be walked on without damaging the material. Most brands offer Class A fire protection. Wind resistance varies on installation and shingle type, but typically range from 60 MPH to 130 MPH. Composition shingles have a variety of warranty options available ranging from 20 years to limited lifetime warranties.
